Sydney Sage repeats high school for a top-secret alchemist mission to hide the Moroi princess, Jill Dragomir.
She struggles to hold on tight to principles the alchemists literally tattooed into psyche, but the time she spends with Moroi, dhampires, and her wacky history teacher chips away at her prejudices.
If she isn't careful, she'll become a vamp-lover.
I almost didn't read it because Vampire Academy was so good, and I was afraid it was going to be a disappointing spin-off, but like an addict, I needed more of the world Richelle Mead built.
From the beginning, we're dying to know why Adrian is a part of the mission. Sure, we're elated that we get more of his whit and one-liners, but we're curious why Richelle decided to grace us with his presence in Sydney's story.
Because she's a genius, that's why. Adrian and Jill have a secret. Sydney uncovers it, and is faced with two options: tell the alchemists, or commit to a string of lies to protect her friends. Guess which one she picks.
Sydney finds herself keeping secrets of her own. I don't want to give away too much, but lets just say there is more in her world than humans and vampires, and Sydney becomes a part of it.
So should you read the whole series? Absolutely! Richelle lays eggs in first book, and they slowly hatch throughout the series.
What about Rose and Dimitri? Yes, yes, they're back. We can't get enough of them and Richelle knows it. And before you ask, Lissa and Caleb are there too. So are a lot of characters we didn't even know had the potential to become some of our favorites--Jill, Eddie, and Abe, to name a few, even Angeline!
